Adeline. my mom (95) is in an assisted living facility and she loves it. While visiting, I met people in the memory care part of the place and they don't look unhappy. It seemed like just a more intensive assisted living. Don't know for sure. As for funding, you're in California, a state that cares about it's people (unlike Florida where my mom lives) and I'm fairly certain there are alternative funding methods. I believe when you run out of Medicare, Medicaid can kick in. You shouldn't be shouldering this burden alone. I'm fairly certain that California has social services organizations that can advise and assist. Make sure that the house is in your name only and sell it. That way, the value of the home cannot be used to prevent your parents getting further government help. Damn, I feel your pain.
